Stress can come from your daily 9–5, your mom, or your upcoming credit card bill. Besides the long white hairs, are there any other real effects from your day-to-day stress?
Before we do a deep dive on stress and how to go full-on hippie and meditate it away, let’s discuss about how real the effects of stress are.
Telogen effluvium is a scalp disorder. It's characterized by the thinning or shedding of hair resulting from the early entry of hair in the telogen phase (the resting phase of the hair follicle). Emotional or physiological stress may result in an alteration of the normal hair cycle and cause the disorder.
Aside from the loss of hair, stress also can cause heart problems, asthma, depression, and accelerated aging. What I'm saying, no Ph.D/MD needed, is that stress isn’t a good thing. Calling a psych isn’t always budget friendly, so count on me for some tips and tricks without breaking the bank.
Grab a cushion or a quiet corner of your room, and sit down in a position that’s calming for you. Take deep breaths while focusing on your slow and paced breathing. Breathe in. Now slowly breathe out. Think about the most calming and relaxing thing that comes to mind. For me, it’s the endless pool at the Conrad Bali with an ice cold mojito. Calm thoughts.
While focusing on your breathing and thinking of a calm place, basic meditation will calm you down and save your soul.
Okay, I’m not on any level peddling some Buddhist meditation, but I do think it’s definitely a whole lot better than what stress will give ya, so take it.
