Tips for Getting Rid of Those Pandemic Pounds

Over the past year with the pandemic closing everything down, you’ve probably been exercising a lot less than you would like. You, like many others, probably have gained some weight as a result. However, with the COVID-19 vaccine coming out and restrictions being lifted, you might be thinking about starting to lose that weight. Here are a few ideas to help you get started.

Give Your Diet a Sustainable Overhaul

One of the first places you should start when it comes to losing the quarantine weight is with your diet. It may have been easy to fall into the habit of getting take-out frequently or of purchasing easy-to-make (somewhat unhealthy) meals but taking the time and effort to start eating healthier will pay off.

Start with a good meal plan and stick with it. As you think about your meal plan, don’t limit yourself to foods that you perceive as healthy but do not find appealing. If you like shrimp, buy shrimp and cook it with some light olive oil and delicious spices. If you love burgers, plan to make yourself a great lettuce wrap.

Increase Your Activity Levels

As you work to lose weight, you should also increase your activity. Increasing your activity doesn’t have to involve a total transformation of all your daily habits. Start with small things. For example, consider getting a standing desk for your workspace. One of the benefits of using a standing desk when working from home is that it's an easy way to burn extra calories while you work.

Get Better Sleep

One of the best things you can do for your body when it comes to losing weight is to get better sleep. Getting good sleep has been proven to help improve mood, help refine your memory from day to day, and make you more efficient.

In addition to these benefits, getting good sleep also helps you better manage the hormones that prompt your cravings and have more energy to channel towards preparing and eating the right foods.

As you think about how to improve your sleep, start by working to establish a regular sleep schedule. When you go to bed and wake up at the same time each day, your body starts to program itself to that clock. Doing so will enable your body to maximize the time you spend laying in your bed so that you get the optimal amount of sleep you need to function at your best.

Figuring out how to lose weight is never easy. Getting back into gear after this pandemic can seem especially difficult. Start with these ideas and then go from there.
